What’s the news?

Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky Tuesday announced that the online lodging platform will host 20,000 Afghan refugees in its accommodations worldwide for free.

In a series of tweets Tuesday, Chesky said his company will be funding the stays of the Afghan refugees. However, no time frame was given on how long these accommodations will be provided for.

But Airbnb has also received praise for using its reach in other times of crisis. Over 25,000 people impacted by disasters or fleeing conflict have received temporary housing through Airbnb.org and Airbnb’s programs.
